Changing the dealer landscape yet again, a West Texas Cat affiliate has acquired Darr Equipment Company’s Caterpillar sales operation covering Oklahoma and much of north central Texas.

With this acquisition, Warren Cat’s dealership territory consists of the state of Oklahoma and half of Texas. Warren Cat will operate stores in Texas locations including Abilene, Amarillo, Dalhart, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, Perryton, San Angelo and Wichita Falls. Store locations in Oklahoma include Ardmore, Elk City, Enid, Guymon, Oklahoma City and Poteau.

The acquisition became final after a year of active negotiations. Warren Cat is owned by Warren Equipment Co. (WEC), based in Midland, TX. Together with its subsidiaries, Compressor Systems Inc. and Ignition Systems and Controls LP, WEC employs 1,350 people and operates in 14 states.

In fact, Warren Cat president Jim Nelson attributes his company’s success to its workers. “We empower our employees to take care of our customers and to provide total solutions to their needs rather than just a transaction. We are relationship driven and we are certain all customers of Warren Cat will be pleased with the results,” he said.

According to Richard Folger, president and CEO of WEC, his company has maintained a presence in Oklahoma and Wichita Falls for more than 31 years through its subsidiaries, making recent developments seem a natural extension of what’s gone before.

Nelson agreed that the Oklahoma and Wichita Falls area are a ’natural fit’ with West Texas Cat.

“Our existing territory parallels the industries, and geographically we find tremendous similarities,” he said.

According to Folger, the acquisition is indeed a win-win situation for the company and its customers, whether they’re new or longstanding.

“We believe that the addition of these territories are important to meeting our strategic objective of long-term growth,” Folger said. “WEC will utilize its integration expertise and strong balance sheet to expand the service and distribution of Caterpillar products throughout this territory. We have committed the financial resources to have a significant and immediate impact for the customer base.”

Speaking of customers, they should expect to find many familiar faces in their future dealings with Warren Cat. That’s because the company has retained most of the Darr employees from the Oklahoma and Wichita Falls territory.
