Associated General Contractors (AGC) of California announced the winners of the prestigious 36th Annual Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) during the 2023 CONSTRUCT Annual Conference, presented by Autodesk Construction Cloud on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, California.

"Safety is the cornerstone of everything we do in our industry. Our primary goal as an industry is to ensure that every employee returns home safely to their loved ones, allow them to carry out their essential work in a safe environment, and contribute to California's growth," said Peter Tateishi, chair executive officer at AGC of California. "Congratulations to this year's award winners who serve as outstanding examples for our industry."

Every year, the AGC of California acknowledges excellence in safety within the California construction industry through the Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA). These prestigious awards are a testament to AGC of California's dedication to enhancing the professional standards of contractors' safety and health initiatives statewide. The significance of the CSEA has only grown, demonstrating the AGC of California's unwavering commitment to safety and health in the construction industry.

"We believe in cultivating a ‘Culture of Safety' that permeates throughout the industry, from owners to frontline leaders, with a collective commitment to the safety and well-being of every employee. The Safety and Health Council plays a crucial role in driving this culture of safety across the state, to elevate our industry and ensure the highest standards of safety are upheld," said Brian Mello, associate vice president of Engagement & Regulatory Affairs at AGC of California.

AGC of California acknowledges the vital importance of safety and will elevate its Safety Professional Awards to the annual Achievement Awards for the second consecutive year. This prestigious award will be presented at the Installation & Awards Gala on Feb. 2, 2024, at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.

"Walsh Construction's safety program was recognized for its safe work methods, risk identification, worker engagement, management/ownership involvement and training system at three Northern California projects, which include the new headworks at the Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant in San Francisco, the Digested Sludge Dewatering Facility and the San Jose Filter Rehabilitation Project, both a the San Jose-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility," Walsh said in a statement. "In addition to the Main Construction Safety Excellence Award for overall safety performance, Walsh Construction was awarded for its safety performance in High Hazard environments, specifically at the San Jose Digester and Thickener Facilities Upgrade Project, where a significant number of hazardous materials were present and Walsh led the coordination and containment efforts to protect project team members, remove hazardous materials and provide safe work conditions within an operating wastewater treatment plant.
