Tonya Shevenell is the new director of Member Engagement of the Associated General Contractors of Maine. She joined the association as AGC America celebrates its 100th Anniversary.

“The history of construction in America and our home State of Maine is something we should continue to celebrate by building a stronger presence in our community. AGC provides that platform, and I'm pleased to join a team passionate about Maine's skilled workers and helping an industry with a rich heritage of ingenuity,” Shevenell said.

In her new role, she will communicate the Chapter's success with current and potential members while helping with programs to attract new skilled workers to the industry.

“Our industry is constantly changing, and while our team has been very good at tackling the opportunities and issues; strengthening our communication within the industry is equally important, we are pleased that Tonya joined our team,” said Matt Marks, AGC Maine's CEO.

Shevenell's unique experience as a sales trainer, filmmaker and event manager complements the goals set by the Chapter's Board of Directors. In her most recent film project, she documented a trek by her 74-year-old father Ray Shevenell, as he retraced the pioneering journey made by his 19-year-old great great grandfather who walked from his home in Canada to Biddeford, Maine, in 1845. Israel Shevenell found work as a brick maker and built a new life in an American boomtown being transformed by the Industrial Revolution, and is recognized as the city's first permanent French-Canadian settler and French voter.

Shevenell's time during the busy construction season will be on the road meeting with members and learn more about the industry.

“Nothing can replace face to face conversations in the construction business,” she said.
