More than 30 vendors also were on site to support Alban's CAT-A-Thon. Among them was Rototilt, a manufacturer of attachments including buckets, grapples, plate compactors and tiltrotators, which turn any kind of excavator into a “jack of all trades.”

Kevin Martin, superintendent of Love Point Ventures in Stevensville, Md., was impressed with the Rototilt bucket.

“We have to go in after a development is built and when we do that, we have tight quarters to build the pond,” he said. “This technology enables us to keep the excavator still and not rip up the ground around the buildings. It is fantastic to sit in one spot and do just about anything. The Rototilt bucket eliminates the labor for a majority of the work.”

Technology also was a prominent highlight during the event, such as the skid steer with Remote Task. Steve Price, rental sales representative of Alban Rents, demonstrated the Torq Robotics technology for attendees.

“The skid steer has fully functional capabilities through the handheld remote,” he said. “From auxiliary power controlled to hydraulic adjustments, you can move and adjust on the fly. Safety is the number-one concern and that is what this application is perfect for. Situations also have been shown that this technology is great for police and fire departments; they have armored vehicles for hostage situations. For facilities that need to have a full shutdown in order to clean up under equipment, they have the ability to run this remotely, so you don't need a full shut down. “

Upon registering at the event, attendees could enter a raffle to win a new Caterpillar 300.9 mini-excavator. Other door prizes included crab mallets and a Rental Solutions keg cooler.

Alban CAT provided guests a catered lunch by Chaps Pit Beef and ice cream was served from a Good Humor truck from the 1950s.

Alban CAT and its guests were both pleased with the day's event.

“It's a great day to get the guys out of the shop and over to this wonderful event,” said Curtis Pennington, trade shop supervisor of Montgomery County, Md.. “They really appreciate what Alban puts on for them.”

“We love to bring the customers in to show them what we can do and to show off the house,” said John Alexander of Alban CAT. “It's also important to have the vendors involved so that they can answer any questions customers may have.”
