The 9th annual CAT-A-Thon sale, hosted by Alban CAT, was a success once again despite the prediction of harsh weather and a possible cancellation due to a hurricane just a week before. More than 200 customers attended the event, which was held in Baltimore, Md., and seemed eager to spend the day outside shopping for new and used Caterpillar equipment. Jeff Regner, used parts and equipment manager, said the sale was a good opportunity to sell new and used Caterpillar attachments.

“It also gives customers the chance to come in and see all the products we offer, in addition to visiting our vendors. We had 36 vendors this year, a record for the CAT-A-Thon, and this event provides an opportunity for these companies to showcase their products and services.”

One customer in particular took advantage of the sale and purchased several pieces of equipment. Paige Lynch of George & Lynch Construction traveled from Dover, Del., to attend the sale.

“There were good deals on equipment this year, said Lynch. “The deals and service keep me coming back to the CAT-A-Thon. I bought a couple skid steers this year, a couple backhoes last year.”

The event also featured a catered lunch from Chaps Pit Beef, including ham, turkey and sides. In addition, Lock Crippen of Crippen Crushing was the lucky winner of a drawing for a 2015 Harley Davidson.

“The CAT-A-Thon is an opportunity to showcase our dealership and I think it is professionally done,” said John Alexander, used equipment sales manager. “From the setup, displays and the vendors, it’s something for customers to experience.

“We take what we do seriously when it comes to customer expectations. It takes a lot of time, people and coordination to make the day successful and each year we try to make better than the last. This year didn’t come without a challenge. With the hurricane uncertainty and three and a half days of rain, the show must go on.

Volunteers of Raven’s Roost were on hand for another important aspect of the sale. Each year, Alban CAT features a silent auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Jamie Alban, president of Alban CAT and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, said this charity in particular is very important to him.

“I have first hand experience with guys I know that have been wounded in the war, and we are involved with a few veterans organizations. Wounded Warrior is right at the top of the list, so we’re proud to do a little bit for a good cause. Our customers are also very interested in being involved with this organization. One of our customers was a contractor on a Wounded Warrior job. We are happy to be a part of it.”

Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the CAT-A-Thon sale, and the sale is set for October 11, 2016.
