ASC Continues to Grow Its Global Footprint in Turkey

The Auto–Sueco Coimbra (ASC) Group will now import, distribute, sell and service Volvo construction equipment in Turkey. The company, which began as a Volvo car and truck dealership in Porto, Portugal, in April 1959, sees this expansion as a fitting way to celebrate 50 years in the business.

The original dealership, which is still in operation today, grew in size along with Volvo, taking on more territory in Portugal and representing the heavy equipment that Volvo began to produce as time went on. Later years saw expansion into other foreign markets. ASC Turkey joins the original company in Portugal, along with an ASC company in Spain and ASC Construction Equipment USA Inc. All of these companies support the Volvo brand of equipment.

Brad Stimmel, president, ASC Construction Equipment USA Inc., stated, “This acquisition is another indication that ASC continues to be a strong and financially solid company. This strength will allow ASC to emerge from these slow economic conditions poised to serve the customers of Volvo products here in the U.S. as well as in many other countries in the world.”

ASC entered the United States market in 2004 and has since become one of the largest Volvo dealers in the country, serving North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, east Tennessee and the Florida panhandle. Recent highlights of the company’s U.S. endeavors include becoming a Southeast Volvo Remarketing and Redistribution Center, opening a facility in Atlanta in 2009. ASC also fielded the winning team of parts and service employees that finished first place in the National 2009 Volvo Master Tech Competition. Additionally in 2009, ASC became the Volvo Road Machinery Dealer for Georgia and added three Volvo Rents stores by partnering with a separate franchise owner to coexist in joint locations.

In April 2010, ASC USA continued its record of steady growth by taking on the Sennebogen product line in the Carolinas.

“Sennebogen is a premier brand of bulk material handling equipment and ASC sees expansion opportunities in this important market segment. We recently hired two experienced Sennebogen specialists to work with us. That, too, is part of how ASC USA is continuing to work with our customers in changing times, said Stimmel.

“ We are now focusing on specialized application accounts and key construction accounts in certain market segments that we have identified as important to our future growth. Our sales force is focused on bringing better solutions and cost savings to specific accounts or business types, not just on covering geographic territories.”

As he reflected on both the move into Turkey and the addition of Sennebogen in the United States, Stimmel said he believed that the next 50 years of ASC history will continue to be a story of successful growth.

“What I see happening is expansion through diversified focus on customer segments, on new product lines, and on potential acquisitions. Through these efforts, we’ll be able to expand our facilities and customer services in the United States and throughout the world.” CEG
