When Sergeant Robert Andrew Lott of Battery G, 230 FSC, Army National Guard, High Point, Ga., was deployed overseas, he was much missed by his co-workers at ASC Construction Equipment Inc. USA, Charlotte, N.C. One co-worker in particular, Glenn Hatley, warranty manager and Lott’s supervisor, wanted to be sure that Lott was kept informed of all the news from his workplace and always well supplied with comforts from home.

Hatley organized the campaign to support Lott so well, that he was recently given the Patriot Award Certificate of Appreciation by the Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Hatley was honored on Lott’s nomination to the ESGR.

“Robert [Andrew] Lott has worked for ASC and me for three years. He is a remarkable young man who has served ASC and his country very well. Employees at ASC have been sending care packages to Andrew containing dry cereals, lots of coffee, toiletries, dry soups, sun block lotions, foot powers, dry noodles and many other items that are not affected by high heat and are flyable to Iraq. We stay in touch with Andrew via e-mail. During his recent leave home, several ASC employees took Andrew to lunch at Lancaster’s Bar-B-Que,” Hatley stated.

Brad Stimmel, president, ASC Construction Equipment USA Inc., offered his “heartfelt thanks to Glenn and all the others that have contributed to Andrew’s care packages. We are proud of Andrew and all of our employees that support our troops that serve in Iraq, Afghanistan and all other deployments around the world.”

Jim Rorie of the North Carolina ESGR, Kannapolis, N.C., visited the ASC Charlotte office to present Hatley with a certificate and lapel pin and to thank him and his fellow employees for their support of Lott. With the presentation of the award and the company’s plan to stay in close contact with Lott until he is safely home, ASC Volvo can now be considered for higher-level ESGR awards including the Above and Beyond Award, the Pro Patria Award and the Employer Support Freedom Award.

The ESGR was established in 1972 and now is under operation due to a network of thousands of volunteers in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and due to companies like ASC Volvo, who are keeping a watchful eye on their deployed employees. CEG
