Construction Equipment Guide

The Atlas Copco HB5800 hydraulic breaker attachment has a service weight of more than 6 tons (5.4 t) and is practical for demolition, tunneling, trenching, foundation work and primary/secondary quarry breaking.

Accepting a hydraulic flow of up to 103 gal. (393.9 L) per minute at 2,610 psi of (180 bar) pressure, the HB 5800 delivers an impact rate of up to 460 bpm to offer productivity under some of the most extreme breaking conditions.

The HB 5800 comes standard with AutoControl, a monitoring system that allows the breaker to adapt its frequency and power output to match operating conditions. It begins by firing the first stroke at half power to create a pilot notch that will center the working tool and prevent unnecessary tool slippage. It then adjusts the power output to match the density of the specified material to be broken. This reduces excess shock on both the breaker and carriers.

To further maximize efficiency, the HB 5800 features the StartSelect system, allowing start-up and shut-off to be adjusted to fit job-site conditions. In AutoStop mode, the breaker will not fire until the operator applies down pressure on the demolition tool via the carrier. AutoStop eliminates damaging blank firing by circulating the hydraulic oil internally under low pressure when down pressure is not applied to the tool. AutoStop is ideal for safely circulating and warming the hydraulic system before breaking in cold climates.

In AutoStart mode, the StartSelect system works hand-in-hand with AutoControl. The breaker begins operating as soon as the working tool comes into contact with the material regardless of down pressure, but power is limited to 50 percent until the demolition tool can be fully seated in the breaker. This ensures that the breaker is properly positioned to accept full single blow energy safely without a damaging blank fire. AutoStart mode makes the breaker more versatile and is practical for demolition applications.

An energy recovery system that prevents damage from piston recoil on hard materials is standard on the HB 5800. The energy recovery system consists of a shuttle valve that detects piston rebound and a high-pressure accumulator that stores energy from piston recoil. The stored energy is used on the succeeding strokes, making them faster and harder on the material. Recycling recoil energy increases breaker efficiency and reduces pressure spikes transmitted back to the carrier.

To reduce excess vibration and noise, the HB 5800 comes equipped with the VibroSilenced damping system. Elastic elements between the percussion mechanism and the guide system provide full acoustic insulation, reducing noise by up to 18-dB(A) compared with other guide systems.

For prolonged service life, the HB 5800 features DustProtector II and ContiLube II. The optional DustProtector II feature prevents dust penetration by utilizing a reusable sleeve that contacts the working tool at the base of the breaker. This protects the inner mechanism from the damaging effects of dust.

ContiLube II is an automatic lubrication system mounted directly on the breaker. Featuring a compact, self-priming pump, ContiLube II eliminates the need to manually grease the breaker before each use. Lubricant levels can be observed from the driver’s cab.

The HB 5800 can handle a working tool up to 8-in. (20.3 cm) in diameter at a length of 36-in. (91.4 cm).

Available in three lengths for various applications, the tool options for the HB 5800 include the moil point for multi-purpose use, the flat chisel for rock breaking and demolition, and the blunt tool for rock-breaking and reducing oversized material.
