Construction Equipment Guide

With a service weight of 795 lb., the PB 420 Penta Series hydraulic breaker from Atlas Copco Construction Tools Inc. is designed for use with skid steers, backhoes and mini-excavators.

Featuring a high power-to-weight ratio and quiet operation, the PB 420 is ideal for road construction, landscaping, light demolition and trenching applications.

The PB 420 boasts a high power-to-weight ratio, allowing the unit to fit a broad range of small carriers and offer the hitting force of larger models.

The PB 420 delivers an impact rate of 1,050 blows per minute and accepts a maximum hydraulic flow of 23.8 gal. per minute at 2,175 psi of pressure.

To reduce excess noise, the PB 420 features the VibroSilenced damping system.

Elastic elements between the percussion mechanism and box enclosure provide full acoustic insulation, reducing noise by up to 18-dB(A) compared to similar guide systems.

A long-stroke piston design further reduces noise and minimizes recoil back to the carrier, which lessens the strain on the operator and machine.

The PB 420’s streamlined design reduces maintenance by eliminating the need for a high-pressure accumulator and tension rods.

The unit’s one-piece, field replaceable slip-fit bushing, which is pinned in place by the working steel, allows the operator to replace both the steel and bushing by simply removing the pin opposed to dismantling the entire hammer.

With this design, maintenance can occur in the field increasing production time and decreasing maintenance costs.
