Mayor David L. Stover, city officials and dignitaries will join representatives of the Aurora Public Libraries at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new two-story 34,000 square foot expansion of the Eola Road branch.

The Aurora City Council earlier this year approved the issue of $3.1 million in general obligation bonds to help pay for the expansion of the branch located on the south end of the Eola Community Center on this City’s far east side.

In October, the branch was closed briefly to allow current services and materials to be collected and compressed into less than 6,000 square feet for the duration of the construction.

"Once the new building is ready in late 2002 or early 2003, library patrons will enjoy a spacious, modern full-service branch with expanded technology capability, larger adult reading, and research areas with more quiet study rooms,’ said Mayor David L. Stover.

Library Director Eva Luckinbill said, ”It is our intention to not disrupt service any more than is necessary for safety. We hope we can keep the level of activity high at this branch and continue to provide for the reading and informational needs of the users.’

Branch Manager Pam Truemper reports that library patrons are curious about the construction plans and ”once they fully understand why the branch is in such cramped quarters, they are very excited about the larger, newer library.’

Architect for the expansion project is Kluber, Skahan and Associates, Inc.

Other developments in the area include the newly opened Foundry restaurant and Fox Valley Theatre adjacent to the Fox Valley Mall; Luigi’s House Italian-style restaurant at 778 North Route 59; the recent groundbreaking of a Max Madsen Mitsubishi dealership at the northeast corner of Commons Drive and Ogden Avenue; construction of a 26,700 square-foot Harlem Furniture store next to the Meijer store on Route 59; and a T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant at the southwest corner of Liberty St. and Route 59.

Aurora, Illinois is located approximately 40 miles west of Chicago. It has a population of 142,990 and is described as a diversified community with a balanced combination of retail, industrial, agricultural, service, government and cultural sectors.

The Aurora Economic Development Commission (AEDC) works to promote, attract, and retain commercial and industrial development in the City of Aurora.
