Nearly six months later, Puerto Rico is still recovering from the damages sustained from the storm, and about 100,000 residents are still without power, Huffington Post reported.

Months after Hurricane Maria devastated the island, Puerto Rico's recovery efforts continue.

On March 27, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced their support to help Puerto Rico get back on its feet. According to Mark Walter, Dodgers owner and chairman, the baseball team will donate $2 million to Habitat for Humanity of Puerto Rico to aid rebuilding initiatives, Huffington Post reported. In doing so, the team has joined forces with player Enrique “Kike” Hernandez, a Puerto Rican who began a fundraiser of his own on YouCaring the day after Maria hit. Between that and other charities, Hernandez and his fiancée, Mariana Vicente, contributed more than $225,000 to the Dodgers' donation, Huffington Post reported.

Puerto Rican officials said that the storm damaged more than one third of the island's housing, so the Dodgers' funds will go to Habitat's efforts to repair and rebuild residents' homes.

“It's been more than six months since Hurricane Maria's devastating effects on Puerto Rico and with so much work still to be done, the Dodgers want to do our part to help with the island's rebuilding and recovery efforts,” Walter said in a statement. “Kike and Mariana have been strong advocates for Puerto Rico. We want to join their families and loved ones in helping repair the community and work towards a return to normalcy.”

In a tweet, Hernandez said in response, “Thank you Mark and the entire Walter family and my team, THE LA DODGERS!!! Thank you for making this possible! It means EVERYTHING to me!”
