Bergkamp Inc., based in Salina, Kan., offers the M2 Series of slurry seal/microsurfacing pavers for highways, roads and parking lots.
Slurry seal/microsurfacing is a mixture of aggregate, emulsion, water and additives that is applied over existing pavement as one smooth layer. The truck-mounted M2 Series consists of the M206 — which can carry 6 cu. yds. (4.5 cu m) of aggregate and 300 gal. (1,135 L) of emulsion and water; and the M210 — which can carry 10 cu. yds. (7.7 cu m) of aggregate and 600 gal. (2,270 L) of emulsion and water.
Both models have 55-gal. (200 L) stainless steel additive tanks. The pugmill, conveyor and all liquid material tanks are removable for easier maintenance.
The M2 Series are powered by an onboard 100-hp (74.54 kW) Cummins diesel engine located at the front of the unit in an enclosed engine compartment that reduces the noise for the driver and crew. The unit provides flexibility in meeting legal load weight restrictions by adding up to three tag axles, including one behind the drive axle — which increases the wheelbase and helps meet the federal bridge law.
Aggregate is delivered to the pugmill by a belt-over-chain conveyor, which eliminates slippage, while the steep hopper walls minimize bridging problems. The emulsion ratio is regulated as it is pumped by the large 3-in. (7.62 cm) gear pump into the pugmill — where they are mixed with the aggregate. The variable speed, dual-shaft, multi-paddle pugmill has a dual hydraulic drive, which provides even mixture and coating of the aggregate.
The M2 Series has a full-width platform that allows operators to see both sides easily. In addition, a remote sideshift control lets the spreader box operator control the box from the ground.
