Low bids totalling more than $117 million on highway and bridge improvement projects throughout the state were received by the Illinois Department of Transportation on the Sept. 27, 2001 bid letting.

Also included are three aeronautics and five land

reclamation projects.

Following is a list of some of the projects, by county:

Location: York Street

District: 1

Construction: Improvement consists of 0.53 mile of pavement reconstruction, storm sewers, water main, sanitary sewers, traffic signals and landscaping on FAU Route 2 (York Street) from North Avenue to I-290 in Elmhurst.

Completion Date: 85 working days.

Contractor: Harry W. Kuhn Inc., Wheaton

Amount: $2,313,951.

County: McHenry

Location: US 14

District: 1

Construction: 5.23 miles of 22 ft., 44 ft. and variable width milling and bituminous concrete surface on U.S. Route 14 from West Lake Shore Drive to Dole Avenue in Crystal Lake and Woodstock.

Completion Date: July 31, 2002 plus 05 working days.

Contractor: Peter Baker & Son Co., Lake Bluff

Amount: $1,661,568.

County: Cook

Location: Franklin Street and I-55

District: 1

Construction: Rehabilitation of five structures along 1.15 km of Franklin Street Connector FAI Route 55, from Cermak Road to FAI Route 90/94, including pavement patch resurfacing and highway lighting, located in Chicago.

Completion Date: October 31, 2002 plus 15 working days.

Amount: $17,954,347.

County: Cook

Location: I-57

District: 1

Construction: Structure steel and bearing fabrication for 6 structures located along FAI Route 57 from FAI Route 94 to FAI Route 80 in Calumet Park, Blue Island, Riverdale Dixmoor, Posen, Markham, Hazel Crest and Country Club Hills.

Completion Date: April 30, 2002

Contractor: Pitt-Des Moines Inc., Eau Clair WI

Amount: $2,319,070.

County: DuPage

Location: Unmarked Route

District: 1

Construction: Improvement consists of a bicycle-pedestrian bridge over IL Route 19 in Wood Dale. Work includes steel box girder pedestrian bridge with concrete deck ornamental steel railing and concrete block retaining walls.

Completion Date: 75 working days.

Contractor: Herlihy Mid-Continent Co., Romeoville

Amount: $1,780,434.

County: Lake

Location: Dilley’s Road

District: 1

Construction: Improvement consists of construction of a single span, 1 at 24.75 m, precast prestressed concrete deck beam bridge carrying FAU Route 2677 (Dilley’s Road over Mill Creek and 0.458 km of roadway reconstruction, shoulders retaining walls, landscaping and pavement marking approximately 1.17 km south of Wadsworth Road.

Completion Date: 85 working days.

Amount: $1,857,270.

Location: Gross Point/Harts Road

District: 1

Construction: 1.29 miles of bituminous reconstruction and resurfacing, concrete curb and gutter, drainage structures, traffic signals and pavement markings on FAU Route 3519 (Harts Road/Gross Point Road) from Milwaukee Avenue (Illinois Route 21 ) to Lehigh Avenue (FAU Route 2786) in Niles.

Completion Date: 90 working days.

Construction: Removal of the existing superstructure and construction of a 4-span, 2 at 16 m, 2 at 23.93 m steel beam bridge on widened concrete piers carrying Lorenzo Road over FAI Route 55 and reconstruction of the Lorenzo Road/FAI Route 55 interchange including realignment of Lorenzo Road, highway lighting and signing, all located southwest of Joliet.

Completion Date: Oct. 31, 2002 plus 15 working days.

Amount: $10,597,809.

Location: 47th Street

District: 1

Construction: Removal of the existing structure carrying 47th Street over Des Plaines River and replacement with a 4-span at 37.39 m, precast, prestressed concrete T-beam bridge and approach pavement reconstruction, located in Lyons and McCook.

Completion Date: Oct. 30, 2002 plus 15 working days.

Amount: $3,682,111.

County: Will

Location: IL 17

District: 1

Construction: Removal and replacement of the superstructure of the bridge carrying IL Route 7 over the I & M Canal and placement of riprap and finger joint drainage troughs on the structure carrying IL Route 7 over Des Plaines River at S & S Canal, AT & SF Railroad, all located in Lockport.

Completion Date: August 1, 2002 plus 10 working days.

Amount: $1,646,644.

County: Kankakee

Location: IL 50

District: 3

Construction: 1.3 miles of improvement consisting of the relocation of Illinois Route 50 the intersection of St. George Road including permanent traffic signals. Adding left and right turn lanes at the intersection of Illinois Route 51 with McKnight Road and widening of the intersection of Indian Oaks Road with West Avenue, all located north of Bradley.

Completion Date: Dec. 1, 2002 plus 20 working days.

Contractor: Azzarelli Construction Co., Kankakee

Amount: $3,693,409.

County: Macoupin

Location: IL4 and Old IL4

District: 6

Construction: 6.97 miles of pavement patching, bituminous surface removal, variable width PCC base course widening, 6.7 m and 4.88 m width bituminous concrete resurfacing, variable width bituminous shoulders, 1.5 m width aggregate shoulders and concrete curb and gutter on Illinois Route 4 and Old Illinois Route 4 between Benld and Staunton.

Contractor: Charles E. Mahoney Co., Belleville

Amount: $1,618,628.

Location: I-24

Construction: Pavement patching, bituminous surface removal, 24 ft. width bituminous concrete resurfacing, 10 ft. and 6 ft. width bituminous shoulders, 2 ft. width aggregate wedge shoulders, pipe underdrains and work at 21 bridges on FAI Route 24 beginning southeast of Vienna at the Johnson/Massac County Line and extends southeasterly 14.99 miles to the Ohio River Bridge near Metropolis.

Location: U.S. 51 BUS, IL 105

District: 5

Construction: 7.46 km of 2 at 8.1 m width of bituminous concrete resurfacing, left turn lanes and traffic signals on U.S. Route 51 Bus. and Illinois Route 105 from Lincoln Park Road to the U.S. Route 51 Bypass in Decatur.

Completion Date: October 1, 2002

Construction: 4.2 miles of 22 feet width of bituminous concrete resurfacing and aggregate shoulders on IL Route 9 from Towanda-Barnes Road to 0.5 miles east of IL Route 165 near Bloomington.
