Binder Machinery Company, based in South Plainfield, NJ, was recently named dealer for Tadano and Kobelco cranes.

Tadano manufactures rough-terrain, all-terrain and truck cranes, and Kobelco produces lattice-boom crawler cranes. Binder will carry the full Kobelco crawler crane line in New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, New York City and Long Island as well as Sullivan, Ulster and Dutchess counties in New York, while the company will carry the complete Tadano crane line in Delaware and eastern Pennsylvania, as well as New Jersey.

According to Bob Binder, chairman, the two new crane lines complement the company’s already extensive line of equipment, which includes Komatsu earthmoving equipment, Ingersoll-Rand/Blaw-Knox road building products and Nordberg crushing and screening plants.

Although the crane lines are new to Binder, the company has a long history as a crane dealer. When Binder was founded by the late Walter Binder in 1957, the company’s principal product line was Bucyrus-Erie cranes, a manufacturer Binder represented until 1982.

“We were a crane dealer for 25 years with the Bucyrus-Erie line,” said Brendan Binder, vice president of Binder and grandson of Walter Binder. “That’s where we cut our teeth and we are proud and excited to be back in the crane business.”

Tadano Hydraulic Cranes

Tadano introduced its first hydraulic crane in 1955, and the company now manufactures a full line of rough-terrain, all-terrain and truck cranes, which includes six rough-terrain TR Series models with lifting capacities from 30 to 80 tons (27 to 72 t), six all-terrain ATF-Series models with lifting capacities from 50 to 180 tons (45 to 162 t) and two truck crane TT-Series models with lifting capacities from 60 to 80 tons (54 to 72 t).

“I have known the Binder organization personally for more than 20 years and have high regard for the entire company and its outstanding coverage of the contractor market in its trade area,” said Ron Dogotch, vice president and general manager of Tadano America Corporation, headquartered in Houston.

“They have a well-earned reputation for providing a high level of service to their customers and we’re extremely enthusiastic about having them as our new dealer. They are accustomed to selling premier products and providing premier service and we believe customers perceive Tadano cranes to be the highest-quality products in the industry. Our new partnership with Binder will provide customers with superior value. They will be able to turn to Binder for quality cranes second-to-none in the world, backed by product support second-to-none in the area,” said Dogotch.

By offering a full range of Tadano rough-terrain, all-terrain and truck crane models backed by parts and service support, Binder can meet the specific job-site needs of a wide variety of crane users.

Kobelco Crawler Cranes

Kobelco Cranes offers a complete line of lattice-boom crawler cranes with lifting capacities of 85 to 250 tons (76.5 to 225 t).

The four CK-Series models include the 85-ton CK850-II, the 100-ton (90 t) CK1000-II, the 200-ton (180 t) CK2000 and the 250-ton (225 t) CK2500. Kobelco also plans to introduce a new 160-ton (144 t) capacity crawler crane — the CK1600 — this spring.

“We primarily market and sell our cranes through distributors,” said Steve Flood, general manager of Kobelco Cranes North America Inc.

“They are fundamental to getting the product to the market, and we strive to work with quality companies, good companies. I would rather not have a dealer in a region than have a bad dealer in that area. The opportunity to have a business relationship with a high-caliber company such as Binder Machinery doesn’t come along very often. So we are absolutely thrilled to take our quality product to a quality dealer like Binder. Not only will they bring our product line to the marketplace, they support the products they sell and that’s the reason they have a large customer base. Customers know they can buy from Binder in complete confidence because Binder will always back them up,” said Flood.

History of Quality

Kobelco has been a leader in crawler-crane technology since it developed its first unit in Japan in 1937. Introduced in North America in 1997, Kobelco has constantly updated its current CK series machines. Kobelco Cranes North America Inc. is headquartered in a new 22,000-sq.-ft. facility in Houston. The company sells and supports the crawler crane product line in the United States and Canada.

“We believe the Kobelco crawler cranes will be outstanding machines for many Binder customers, from general contractors and bridge builders to steel erectors and foundation contractors,” said Flood. “Customers will also use these machines in marine work and at industrial plants. We think the CK Series machines will be popular among Binder customers, especially the 85- and 100-ton units, as well as the new 160-ton machine that we are introducing soon. By the end of this year, we plan to introduce another model that exceeds the lifting capacity of our 250-ton crawler crane.”

Flood and his team at Kobelco Cranes have worked closely with the Binder sales, service and parts teams to launch the new product line and they are excited about the future.

“Binder has already ordered crawler cranes and stocked parts for the line,” he said. “We’ve provided sales and marketing training as well as service training to Binder in New Jersey. So we’re really strong in that regard. We know Binder has high-quality individuals and they learn quickly. Together, we want to show customers they can buy the highest-quality crawler crane available anywhere in the world and get the best support available from any dealer in the area. Binder is the perfect dealer to do that.”
