The Philadelphia Construction Expo, Jan. 27 to 28, 2009, will assuredly draw at least two types of visitors to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa.: those who are in the construction industry and those who are Philadelphia sports fans. Many of the visitors will be both.
With this combination in mind, Norris Sales Inc., Plymouth Meeting, Pa., is bringing Bernie Parent, one of the Broad Street Bullies, to the show. The more mature fans will remember the Stanley Cup-winning Flyers teams for which Parent tended goal in the 1973-1974 and 1974-1975 seasons. In both seasons, Parent won the Vezina Trophy as best goalie and the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP and inspired fans to plaster their cars with “Only the Lord saves more than Bernie Parent” bumper stickers.
Parent’s skyrocketing career came to an abrupt halt in 1979 when an eye injury forced him to retire from hockey. The Flyers honored Parent by retiring his No. 1 jersey on Oct. 11, 1979, one of just four Flyers numbers to be retired. He was the first Flyer inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Parent was a charter inductee into the Flyers Hall of Fame in March 1988 and he was honored in May 1999 as the greatest goaltender in the history of the Canadian Hockey League.
Since his retirement nearly 30 years ago, Parent has taken that energy and enthusiasm into the business world consulting and endorsing local and national businesses, consistently achieving high ratings and standing ovations. His most recent passion is working with corporations to improve safety in the workplace. Norris Sales is pleased to bring the popular, inspirational Parent to the Philadelphia Construction Expo.
This year’s show will feature the combined efforts of CEG Productions, Fort Washington, Pa.; Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Inc., East Norriton, Pa.; and Asphalt Care Equipment Inc., Bensalem, Pa., giving area contractors, landscapers and municipal workers three shows under one conveniently located roof.
The all-new Greater Philadelphia Expo Center is less than 10 mi. west of King of Prussia, Pa., and is easily accessible from all five counties in the Greater Philadelphia region. Hotel accommodations ranging from luxury to budget are available throughout the area, with three new hotels planned in the immediate vicinity. Shopping, restaurants and entertainment are all readily at hand both onsite and for those who prefer to wander farther afield.
The facility, one of the largest suburban exhibition centers on the east coast features up to 210,000 sq. ft. (19,509 sq m) of uninterrupted exhibition space on a single floor, large loading docks for easy move-in and move-out, 22- to 45-ft. (6.7 to 13.7 m) ceilings and 5,000 free onsite parking spaces.
Bob Buckley, president of CEG Productions, and Sheila Kirby, CEG Productions trade show manager, report that plans for the 2009 show are well under way with an extensive list of exhibitors already signed on. For more information call Buckley at 800/992-7116 or Kirby at 800/523-2200. CEG
