Cashman Supports NFP, NVCCU on Southern Nevada Site

Recycling. We’re not talking about aluminum cans worth five cents in California or those blue paper bins in the corner of your office. We’re talking about “real” recycling — cleaning-up the hundreds of construction and landscaping sites in southern Nevada.

It’s a huge job, but Nevada Construction Clean Up (NVCCU) has been meeting the need since 1990, and has branched-out into Nevada Forest Products Inc. (NFP) to better address local recycling needs.

What “needs” are we really talking about here? NVCCU is cleaning-up the jumbled mess you see when a building is going-up, all that excess drywall and construction lumber. They are getting rid of the hated, unsightly pile of palm fronds on your neighbor’s curb.

Joe Mercado Sr. of NVCCU and Joe Mercado Jr. of NFP are the only licensed clean-up and recycling companies in all of Clark County. These ingenious guys are meeting our county’s needs with the help of Caterpillar machine attachments customized by NVCCU and NFP with Cashman Equipment’s support.

The Mercado’s needed equipment that would reach the top of towering mounds of nature’s recyclable waste and lift construction lumber at least two stories high. So, two 966H wheel loaders got some super modifications … they don’t fly, but they do hit the extra 6 ft. that NFP needs.

Efficiency isn’t the only thing with which Cashman is helping out. Specialized rotating fork attachments on eight 904B compact wheel loaders are saving NVCCU and NFP a lot of green (money, that is). This attachment allows them to empty 6-yd. dumpsters (the kind you see at every construction site) into the much larger dumpsters for transport. Modifications made to the compact wheel loader attachments save the Mercado’s approximately $50,000 per loader when compared to the cost of a machine that’s specifically designed to empty dumpsters.

“It was a real challenge for [Cashman] at first, we’d never made modifications like this before,” said Jeff Fickel, Cashman sales representative. “But there is nothing better than seeing the unique uses Joe Sr. and Joe Jr. are putting their 24 Cat machines to.”

Fickel has witnessed Caterpillar’s adaptability at the Mercado’s job sites and knows that versatility has made a huge difference for his customers.

Cashman has made a difference for NVCCU and NFP, who are in turn making a difference every day in the southern Nevada community. So, remember — when you hear “recycling”, think Nevada Construction Clean Up and Nevada Forest Products Inc. instead of those boring blue paper bins.
