Scott Van Keppel LLC has signed on as the authorized Champion dealer for the states of Iowa and Nebraska. The partnership took effect on Sept. 1, 2008.

“As a part of two third-generation construction equipment companies, we are very well capitalized and have the necessary know-how, as well as the necessary personnel to make things happen for Champion Motor Graders and the end-user in our territory,” said Del Keffer, president of Scott Van Keppel.

Formed in 2007 by a joint venture of two established Volvo Construction Equipment dealers, Scott Equipment and The G.W. Van Keppel Company, with a combined experience of more than 150 years in the business, Scott Van Keppel provides equipment solutions and customer support for the aggregate and construction equipment sectors through its three locations in Omaha, Neb., Des Moines, Iowa, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition to its Volvo Construction Equipment and Champion Motor Grader lines, the company represents Universal and Eagle crushing and screening products, Superior conveyor and material moving systems, BTI and several other lines.

Becoming an authorized Champion dealer grew out of talks Keffer had with company principals Bryan and Gary Abernathy at ConExpo 2008, and was facilitated by Woody Ferrell, recently appointed vice president of sales and marketing for Champion Motor Graders.

Champion Opens New Markets

Keffer said that the acquisition of the Champion compact grader line will open new markets for his company.

“Champion provides us with the ability to call on and have something to sell to smaller contractors as well as municipalities who require a strongly built, compact motorgrader,” said Keffer. “In addition to smaller parking lot and paving contractors and municipalities, we will be targeting certain mining and quarry operations.”

Keffer explained that Scott Van Keppel’s relatively smaller size will allow it “to move very quickly and nimbly” to meet customer needs.

Scott Van Keppel plans on aggressively marketing its new Champion line.

“We plan to introduce the line to a lot of people at the American Public Works Association Show in Iowa City in September and some other municipal gatherings in spring 2009 and a show in Des Moines. We know that they are the right machines for the job and, depending upon the application, purchasing a Champion compact grader can be very cost-efficient for smaller contractors and municipalities,” Keffer said. “We plan on having a nice representation of the product line in all three of our branches come spring.

“We’re looking forward to building our relationship with Champion. I’ve known the Abernathys and Woody Ferrell for quite a few years and I’m looking forward to working with them and the rest of the staff at Champion.”
