The 39th annual West Virginia Construction & Design Expo was held March 21 and 22 at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, W.Va.

Ongoing major renovations of the Charleston Civic Center did little to impede the overall spirit of optimism and enthusiasm among those in attendance and exhibiting at the show. Speaking during a press conference at the event, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice cited a recent Association of General Contractors of America (AGC) report that ranked West Virginia as adding the highest percentage of new construction jobs this past year, with a 14.4 percent gain and a total of 4,300 jobs.

According to the Contractors Association of West Virginia Executive Director Mike Clowser, optimism abounds in the state because of growth in the area's construction and related fields spurred by increases in infrastructure development, mining and natural gas activities and forestry.

Sponsored and organized by association members from West Virginia's construction and design industries, the event was billed as the largest annual trade show of its kind in the region. With a goal of helping attendees learn about and incorporate the latest advances in technology, equipment and innovative management strategies, the show featured a wide range of more than 70 educational seminars and meetings.

With equipment displays and tabletop booth exhibits situated throughout the Civic Center, the trade show served as a forum for more than 400 exhibitors to showcase a wide range of equipment, products and services geared toward the state's architectural, building, construction and design industries.
