The Las Vegas area is experiencing a growth spurt, so when California-based Coastline Equipment acquired Blaine Equipment in January 2017, the long-term plan was always to add equipment to its inventory. As a result, the company now offers cranes — sales, rentals, parts and service — to customers.
“We saw Las Vegas as a growing market, a market that could sustain our product and it was a natural fit to expand the Coastline Crane division into Las Vegas,” said Neil Goodale, Coastline Crane division manager.
With large projects such as the new convention center and the new stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders, more work will likely be created, including infrastructure, housing and other development.
“Going forward there are a number of large projects we hope to be a part of and there are a lot of very good contractors we deal with on our dirt side that we need to establish relationships with and introduce them to our products,” said Goodale. “The Las Vegas market has been growing, the rental business is growing, and we are going to use this yard as a hub to expand. We also have locations in Elko, Nev., and Meridian, Idaho. We will use our Las Vegas yard as a hub to push the equipment out into the mines in northern Nevada and we are going to us this as a home base and keep growing it from here.”
Goodale said the first step was to contact the manufacturers and create partnerships with them. Coastline is already the Tadano and Mantis dealer for Nevada and Idaho, as well as the Elliott dealer for Nevada and Idaho. Those relationships have carried over into the Las Vegas market.
Coastline now offers Tadano, Manitex, Skyjack, Elliott, Tadano Mantis, Shuttlelift and Palfinger lines. According to Goodale, every make and model is available in the Coastline yard.
“We service the entire western United States, are very flexible and will take the equipment wherever it is needed,” he said.
There is much to choose from in the Coastline yard, but many big projects will need to meet air standard requirements. Coastline's fleet consists of only newer equipment that meets those standards.
“We have large telescopic crawling cranes, all Tier 4 final. The larger rough terrain cranes that we stock, include 160-ton Tadanos; 120-ton Tadanos; and 80, 90 and 100-ton Tadanos. Our entire rental fleet is all Tier 4 final,” said Goodale.
With an expanding marketplace, the need for training service people also is growing. To meet the needs of customers, classes for mechanics have already been held at Coastline.
“We have already conducted several service classes here in Las Vegas,” said Goodale. “Manitex gave a week-long training class for all of our mechanics from all of our locations. We had a Tandano Mantis training class as well on the new telescoping crawler, training our mechanics on every aspect of the crane. All of our mechanics from all of our locations have attended the Elliott equipment service school in Omaha, Neb. All of our mechanics at this yard have received factory training from the manufacturers and are fully trained and knowledgeable to service and maintain the equipment.”
Goodale is excited about the Las Vegas location and looking forward to growing and expanding the crane division even further.
