Starting Monday, Oct. 15, crews began construction to rebuild the Colorado Highway 402 and I-25 interchange. This work — which will be segmented into three phases — is part of the I-25 North Express Lanes: Johnstown to Fort Collins project.

Phases of Work
  • Phase 1: Crews will build temporary infrastructure on the southbound side of I-25.
  • Phase 2: Crews will push northbound traffic onto the southbound side to provide access to build infrastructure on the northbound side.
  • Phase 3: Crews will switch northbound and southbound traffic onto the northbound side to allow crews to build the required infrastructure on the southbound side.
Travel Impacts

While most of the work will be performed outside the roadway, nighttime lane closures will be required.

In summer 2019, crews will close CO 402 between the I-25 ramps for 120 days. Once re-opened, CO 402 will span Interstate 25.

Project Info

The I-25 North Express Lanes: Johnstown to Fort Collins project will:

  • increase capacity by adding an Express lane in both directions;
  • replace four aging bridges;
  • widen four additional bridges;
  • improve multimodal access to regional transit to promote mode shift;
  • improve bus service performance by adding new bus slip ramps from I-25 to the new Park-n-Ride at Kendall Parkway;
  • create new pedestrian, bicycle access under I-25 at Kendall Parkway; and
  • construct new bridges over the Cache la Poudre River, allowing for the future completion of the regional trail.

The project is expected to be completed in 2021.
