Crews, under contract with the Forest Service, began removing hazard trees along U.S. 20 west of Sisters, Ore., on April 29.

The project is expected to last three weeks and be completed by May 22. During the project personnel with the Oregon Department of Transportation will provide traffic control Monday through Friday during daytime hours from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

The herbicide Perspective compromised the trees and they need to be removed to ensure public safety in the highway corridor. Approximately 2,100 trees will be removed on both sides of the highway over a distance of 12.5 mi. Most of the trees will be felled and decked nearby for use as wood products under guidance from the Oregon Department of Agriculture. A few of the trees will be cut and left in place or may be topped to provide habitat for wildlife.

Motorists can expect to see equipment and personnel in close vicinity to the highway and anticipate delays of no greater than 20 minutes.
