DETROIT (AP) Demolition of Tiger Stadium could start soon.

Detroit Economic Growth Corp. Vice President Waymon Guillebeaux said contracts were finalized June 12 with MCM Management Corp. and the Farrow Group to tear down the ballpark.

He said the city is not paying for demolition. The companies expect to make an estimated $1 million by selling scrap from the stadium.

Demolition permits still are needed before work can start.

Certain parts of the stadium will be demolished first to allow a nonprofit group more time to raise enough money to preserve part of the field and some seats behind home plate.

The Tigers played their final game at the stadium in 1999 before moving to Comerica Park the following spring.
