Dominion’s Growth Honored by Va. Chamber of Commerce

The people at Dominion Equipment Parts are happy to be based out of Virginia.

And the Virginia Chamber of Commerce reciprocates the sentiment.

Dominion this year was named among the chamber’s “Fantastic 50,” a list of the fastest-growing companies in the state.

But while the headquarters remains in the Old Dominion State, the company’s growth has definitely broadened it horizons.

The distributor of Dominion Rubber Tracks, MKB hydraulic breakers and OEM parts from Morooka and Yanmar added warehouse location in Dallas; Cincinnati; and Jacksonville, Fla., last year and in Riverside, Calif., in May. The goal of the expansion, said Director of Marketing Chip Bukoski, was to offer next-day delivery to the whole country.

Currently, he estimates the company can make good on that promise to approximately 80 percent of the country, as well as parts of Canada. That’s quite a turnaround from the four to five days it took to get parts to some areas of the country when Dominion worked solely from its headquarters in Ashland, Va.

Dominion was ranked as the fastest growing company in the retail/wholesale category and 31st among all companies.

“From Wytheville to Chesapeake and from Fairfax to Virginia Beach, the Fantastic 50 companies represent the diversity and vibrancy of small businesses throughout Virginia,” said Hugh Keogh, president and CEO of the chamber. “Their entrepreneurial spirit fuels the economic engine of the commonwealth.”

The successful growth has come even as the nation’s economy falters.

“What we’re doing is not without struggle, that’s for sure,” Bukoski said. “But the parts business has been good, because people need to fix what they already own, versus buying new.”

He said the recognition from the chamber of commerce is an encouragement for the 10-year-old company to continue focusing on what has helped the company grow.

“It’s a result of the good people in sales and having a good product,” he said.

Bukoski said the company isn’t through growing. He expects it will add to its eight-person sales team to get “more boots on the ground” throughout the country and to add to its market share.
