Efficiency Production Inc. and the Michigan Rural Water Association (MRWA), recently hosted Municipal Safety Day for Michigan communities’ Departments of Public Works (DPW) and Water Department personnel. Participating at the event were Miss Dig, Fredrickson Supply, Cherne Industries and Jack Doheny Company. The seventh annual event attracted 90 participants from 36 Michigan municipal communities.

“Municipal Safety Day is a unique opportunity for public works personnel to ’cross-train’ in several important areas of workplace safety,” said Mike Ross, Efficiency Production’s national training director. “Plus, they are seeing demonstrations of safety and other equipment that they may not be familiar with, or are seeing for the first time.”

The morning session included utility location training presented by Miss Dig; and pipeline maintenance training presented by Jack Doheny. The afternoon session featured field training, on:

• Compact equipment safety and operation, presented by Fredrickson Supply;

• Hydro-excavation demonstration, presented by Jack Doheny;

• Trench safety equipment and best practices, presented by Efficiency Production; and,

• Test ball/pipe plug safety.

Municipal Safety Day also met requirements for 0.4 MDEQ Continuing Education Credits. Lunch and a raffle also were part of the day’s festivities.
