Pedro Reyes, fleet superintendent of Community Asphalt in Miami, is the grand-prize winner of a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Bomag’s “King of the Road” contest.

Bomag Americas Inc. and its distributor, Nortrax Equipment Company — Southeast, officially presented the motorcycle to Reyes during a celebration on May 19.

The day Reyes found out that he had won the motorcycle happened to be his 47th birthday, so Bomag threw a birthday party for him, complete with cake, balloons and one really nice birthday gift.

“Pedro is a good customer of Nortrax, so we thought it only appropriate to throw him a birthday party,” said Jerry Randecker, president of Bomag Americas Inc.

The “King of the Road” contest was held at Bomag’s booth during ConExpo-Con/AGG in Las Vegas in March. Attendees had to answer five questions about Bomag equipment on display at the show and submit their entry forms in the booth. Reyes’ entry was drawn from the thousands of entries with all five questions answered correctly.

A longtime motorcycle enthusiast, Reyes was skeptical when he learned he had won.

“I didn’t believe it at first. I thought it was a joke,” he said. “I’ve never won anything, so this was a real thrill.”

Reyes is already planning motorcycle trips to Daytona and New Orleans.

Concluding the event, Randecker thanked Reyes and Nortrax for the work they do.

“We are very proud to be associated with a fine dealer like Nortrax, who provide outstanding service to the contractors of central and south Florida,” he said.

“Also, we are honored that contractors like Mr. Reyes and Community Asphalt have chosen Bomag equipment,” Randecker added. “We hope that every time he rides his new Harley, he thinks of us.”

In addition to Reyes, four “King of the Road” contestants each won a Bomag-branded leather jacket. Those winners are: Mike Flowers of Rodman Companies in Frisco, Texas; Joe Thornton of Stark Excavating in Bloomington, Ill.; Jose Martinez of Gallagher Asphalt Corp. in Thornton, Ill.; and Owen Smith of Walsh Kelly Inc. in Griffith, Ind.
