The Cat 336F H Hybrid will soon be powered by a U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final Cat C9.3 ACERT engine. This unique machine features an integrated design that conserves fuel, optimizes performance, and captures and reuses energy—a design that delivers estimated fuel savings of up to 30 percent compared with the standard 336 counterpart. The 336F H Hybrid delivers these fuel savings with no compromise in performance and no added maintenance costs.

The 303 horsepower (226 kW) C9.3 engine meets the strictest EPA emissions regulations without interrupting the job. Proven electronic, fuel, air, and aftertreatment components ensure customer expectations for productivity, fuel efficiency, reliability, and service life are met. The inherent fuel efficiency of the C9.3 is further enhanced with an automatic engine speed control (lowers engine rpm during no-load/light-load conditions), an engine idle shutdown system (stops the engine after a pre-set idling interval), and an ECO mode that allows operators to tailor machine performance to the application. The engine also runs efficiently on biodiesel blends up to B20.

The 336F H’s Electronic Standardized Programmable (ESP) hydraulic pump saves significant fuel by integrating the machine’s power sources and matching engine performance to the load encountered. The unique Cat Adaptive Control System (ACS) valve optimizes hydraulic performance by intelligently managing restriction and flow, seamlessly controlling machine motion and ensuring that hydraulic power is available precisely where and when it is required.

The system also uses the Cat Swing Energy Recovery (SER) valve to capture kinetic energy from the 336F H’s swing deceleration, storing it for reuse. When the operator releases the swing lever, the machine’s momentum drives the hydraulic swing motor as a pump, and the SER valve channels the resulting flow to nitrogen-charged accumulators. The machine’s kinetic energy is thus converted to potential hydraulic energy that is available to assist the swing motor during swing acceleration. This innovative process lessens the load on the engine and hydraulic pumps and conserves significant fuel.

Ample hydraulic flow in the 336F H’s implement circuits, coupled with a high main relief pressure, generates the power to handle a range of buckets and work tools, including shears, multi-processors, hydraulic breakers, and rippers.

The 336F H’s massive frame, heavy-duty extended-length undercarriage, and 5.5-ton (5.0 mt) counterweight combine to form an exceptionally strong, stable work platform for digging, lifting, or attachment use. The heavy-duty reach boom can be paired with either a 10’6” (3.2 m) stick or a 12’10” (3.9 m) stick.

The 336F H also provides the ultimate in operator comfort and convenience, featuring a spacious operator’s environment with an in-cab sound level of only 64.9 dB(A). Air-suspension and heated seats are available, joystick controls are adjustable to suit operator preferences, and an automatic climate control system continually maintains a comfortable environment.

Serviceability features include ground-level access to major maintenance points, electric fuel system priming pump, remote fuel tank drain, and a fuel level indicator to help avoid overfilling. Safety features include a cab-integrated roll-over-protection structure (ROPS), anti-skid surfaces, programmable halogen working lights, easily stored upper and lower windows, large skylight, and a rearview camera system.

Technology enhancements

Equipment owners need to employ their machines to full potential in order to realize maximum return on investment. They need to produce more in less time using less fuel while avoiding unnecessary machine wear and ensuring the safety of everyone on the job site. Cat Connect helps customers get more value from their Cat equipment and improve jobsite efficiency by capitalizing on Caterpillar technology and Cat dealer services.
