General Equipment Company’s FCS5 Rip-R-Stripper Series are a hand-held alternative to General’s larger, walk-behind FCS16 Rip-R-Stripper, and are specifically designed for scraping floor coverings in confined spaces.
With a cutting width of 5 in. (12.7 cm), the FCS5 Series is ideal for use in closets, stairways, foyers and other small work areas where larger equipment is inefficient or difficult to maneuver.
The series includes two models: the FCS5AC and FCS5DC.
Powered by a 1.2-hp (0.9 kW) electric motor, the FCS5AC operates from a standard 115-volt power source and cuts at a rate of 3,000 oscillations per minute.
The FCS5DC is powered by a rechargeable 18-volt battery and cuts at a rate of 2,400 oscillations per minute.
The FCS5 Series effectively removes vinyl composition tiles, sheet linoleum, rubber-backed carpet and a wide variety of mastics and adhesives. The random orbit blade action of the units maximizes material removal rates, while also reducing operator fatigue.
Designed to be ergonomically friendly, both FCS5 models include a front handle that is large enough to accommodate varying hand sizes with work gloves. This makes the equipment more comfortable to use for longer periods of time by virtually any operator. The handle also incorporates a vibration dampening foam covering. In an effort to reduce feedback felt by the operator, the machines were engineered and modified utilizing extensive, independent computer-assisted vibration analysis.
For maximum durability, the scrapers are constructed with all-aluminum transmission housings. This provides high bearing rigidity and resistance to inherent structural problems found with plastic housings.
The FCS5 Series is standard equipped with a steel storage box, a complete set of four multi-purpose blades with protectors, product DVD and safety apparel, including safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves. Additionally, the FCS5DC model includes two replacement 18-volt batteries and a charger. Blades for both models can be quickly and easily removed using the supplied “T”-handled Allen wrench.
