Geneva Rock Products invested more than $8 million in a new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station and fleet of 25 CNG Ready-Mix concrete trucks. The new fueling station is located on its property in South Salt Lake, and can fill all 25 trucks simultaneously. The new cleaner-running CNG fleet has significantly lower emissions than its diesel counterparts: 50 percent less fine particulate matter and 90 percent less carbon monoxide. Geneva Rock's investment into clean air and sustainable practices is even more significant as it is among the largest air quality investments made by any construction company in the state of Utah, according to the company.

“We all share ownership and responsibility for Utah's air quality. We applaud Geneva Rock for leading its industry by making this significant investment in new clean natural gas concrete trucks to help contribute to a better air quality solution,” said Ted Wilson, executive director of Utah Clean Air Partnership (UCAIR). “There is no silver bullet to solving Utah's air quality, but every small change adds to a collective bigger step toward better health, a better economy and better overall quality of life for all of us.”

“Geneva Rock is excited to announce a new eco-friendlier fleet of 25 CNG Ready-Mix concrete trucks and a new innovative CNG fueling station. Lowering our emissions is of upmost importance to us as a company and guides our overall operating decisions,” said Jim Golding, president of Geneva Rock. “This specific purchase and installation is just part of the company's overall clean air initiative, in which the company has already invested more than $30 million to lower emissions and improve Utah's air quality.”

Geneva Rock Products materials are found in buildings across the Wasatch Front. When considering materials for streets and interstate infrastructure, it is estimated that 50 percent of the roadways from Brigham City to Santaquin have been produced with Geneva Rock material.

“It is important to Utah and the local economy to have proactive businesses do what they can to help resolve our air quality issues. Geneva Rock is one of those companies that has continually invested in clean air technologies for their operations,” said Sen. Gene Davis, minority leader of Utah State Senate. “I am proud to have this installation and new fleet of concrete trucks in my district as they service the entire Wasatch Front.”

Geneva Rock's CNG trucks will be the largest fleet of concrete mixers in the state, and perhaps the only one. Geneva Rock is the first ready-mix contractor to own and operate a natural gas filling station in the state of Utah. The CNG filling station and fleet are just part of the company's $30 million clean air initiative to help improve Utah's air quality.

In addition to this announcement, Geneva Rock donated $25,000 to the Utah Clean Air Partnership (UCAIR) to support their grants and education programs in 2017.
