More than 170 people recently attended the Berks County Conservation District’s (BCCD) 45th annual equipment operators workshop at the Berks County Agricultural Center in Leesport, PA. The all-day event featured a variety of presenters speaking on different aspects of earthmoving safety and environmental concerns.

Tom McLaughlin, sales representative for Caterpillar construction equipment dealer Giles & Ransome, was one of the presenters and spoke on “Meeting the Earthmoving Industry’s Equipment Needs.”

Giles & Ransome also brought a number of pieces of equipment for attendees to view.

“Many equipment operators don’t realize which regulations affect them or how to correctly perform certain types of earthmoving jobs. This workshop serves as a forum for those operators and other municipality employees to meet with erosion control experts and earthmoving product vendors. Our speakers covered topics such as OSHA regulations, installation of erosion control blankets and excavating around high pressure natural gas pipelines — all of which affect these operators on a daily basis,” explained John T. Ravert, district manager for the BCCD.

Giles & Ransome, a division of Giles & Ransome Inc., is the authorized distributor of Caterpillar heavy construction equipment in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and northern Delaware. The company maintains branch locations in Bensalem, PA; Bear, DE; Toms River, NJ; Fleetwood, PA; Whitehall, PA; Hammonton, NJ; and West Chester, PA.
