Boston-based P. Gioioso & Sons Inc. is a multi-faceted general construction contractor who has the necessary personnel, financing and equipment resources to complete a wide range of projects, including utility, heavy construction and design/build throughout the state of Massachusetts and adjacent states.

Founded in 1962, the company uses an approach based on team building, continuous coordination, open decision-making, and most importantly, the commitment by all parties to responsiveness.

Most of Gioioso's clients are public agencies, cities and towns — as opportunities arose, the company ventured into building pumping stations, water and sewerage treatment plants, tunnels, marine work, bridges, roads, hydroelectric turbines, chemical soil stabilization, restoration of old buildings, residential subdivisions, reconstruction of a ferry terminal, historical pumping station remodernization, microtunneling and more.

The company's completed and current projects vary in size and complexity — Gioioso has the capacity of handling projects up to $100 million.

Gioioso & Sons often has seven to 10 different jobs going in the area at a time. It is currently working on a waterline project in Worcester, Mass.; bridgework in Dedham, Mass.; and pipework in Somerville, Mass.

Previous projects include a $47 million design/build combined sewer overflow project with US Filter and the Maguire Group for the Lynn Water and Sewer Commission. The project was the first CSO Design/Build project in the nation.

'A Huge Fleet of Machines'

Gioioso & Sons' current inventory of machines includes: 32 dump trucks, 2 cranes, 40 excavators, 15 loaders and 48 work trucks.

"You need a diverse fleet of equipment that will keep our jobs going and our men operating year-round," said Izzy Cabral, operations manager of Gioioso & Sons.

"Naturally, as a company grows, so does their overhead and fleet of equipment. I've been working for Gioioso & Sons for over 25 years, and during that time you build relationships, not only with your co-workers, but with your customers, and also the entities that you do business with.

"We obviously have a huge fleet of machines, and we try to support many of our local dealers when purchasing. However, any New Englander knows that there are few jobs that don't require the use of a breaker to blast the rocks in this region. There is one company that we solely support when it comes to buying our hydraulic breakers, and that is Gorilla Hammers. We started doing business with them decades ago.

"We currently own five GXS90s, one GXS70 and most recently a GHB150. We haven't had a hammer break down in over ten years. When it comes to dealing with the wear and tear on heavy equipment, that is usually unheard of.

"We appreciate the longevity of their hammers accompanied with their competitive price point and customer support. If you need something, your problem is resolved directly from the top, and they treat you right. I have literally have never had a scenario in which they've let me down. They treat you like family," said Cabral.
