Construction to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island is underway thanks to mild weather.

In 2016, reconstruction of the 660 foot porch started with a makeover from the stairs walking up to the hotel down to the west end.

A total of 340 feet including the front steps of the porch was completely re-done. This winter, crews are working on finishing the other half of the porch plus a section outside the Pontiac Room.

The porch decking was torn out down to the original wood structure from when the hotel was built in 1887. This is the first time in 50 years the Grand Hotel's front porch is getting re-done.

The last part of the project will be the green waterproof layer.

In 2015, the Cupola Suites were added to offer additional options for guests and families looking for extra space. In 2017, the Grand Hotel will expand further and add three more bedrooms and two parlors with the option of connecting bedrooms. All of the Cupola Suites have one bedroom or two bedroom options with parlors.

The Grand Hotel starts booking for the season at the end of April.
