H&H Mack Sales of Rockaway, N.J., one of the largest single location Mack Trucks dealership in the North East announced, the installation of its new solar electric system at its headquarters. The system will provide 80 percent of the building’s electrical needs and will have environmental benefits equivalent to the absorption of CO2 from planting 3.2 acres of trees, or cutting back annual green house emissions from roughly taking seven cars off of the road

Bill Horne, president of H&H Mack Sales explained, “The decision to invest in solar technology was based on the many environmental benefits, and also the high return on invested capital. I carefully evaluated the significant revenue from the sale of the SRECs, the elimination of up to 80 percent of my electric bill, federal and state rebates and the reduction of tax liability due to deprecation. Ultimately, the investment decision proved more attractive to me than many other business and investment options available in today’s economy.”

Horne also noted that he feels fortune that his business has been among the fastest growing truck dealerships in the North East during the past several years.

“We have worked hard to earn our place in this industry with exceptional people, exceptional service, and innovation whenever possible.”

The solar generation panels installed on top of the dealership are expected to generate 52,000-kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

“At a time when the entire heavy-duty trucking industry is moving toward greener technologies, I was happy to be able to directly participate by creating a more environmentally friendly dealership.”

“Our status in the industry has ultimately changed from being “New Jersey’s Mack Truck Dealer” to “New Jersey’s Green Mack Truck Dealer.”

Bart Zimmerman, sales executive at the Solar Center said, “H&H Mack Sales was able to take advantage of New Jersey’s Department of Clean Energy’s Rebate Program and the Federal Solar Grant Program which provided 41 percent of the cost of installation. At the same time, and just as important for any business owner, H&H Mack generates revenue for their business through the sale of New Jersey Clean Energy Program, SRECs [Solar Renewable Energy Credits]. The total electric savings and SREC income for the system is over $778,000 during the twenty year plus life of the system. In total, the system will pay for itself in less than three years with a 35 percent rate of return making this a great investment for H&H Mack Sales.”

“I was very fortunate to select an installation company with a professional and straightforward approach. Ed Steins, CEO and his company, The Solar Center, demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge and experience during the entire process. This level of expertise was critical to the success of the project,” Horne added.
