Government officials learned how H.O. Penn provided relief when Hurricane Sandy hit the NY region.
Mon October 07, 2013 - Northeast Edition
On Aug. 27, H.O. Penn Machinery Co. Inc. hosted an event for federal, state and county officials at its Holtsville, Long Island, facility. Congressman Tim Bishop attended the event along with many state and county officials from the region.
During the visit, H.O. Penn executives briefed the attendees on the history of H.O. Penn as a long-standing and growing employer in the area as well as H.O. Penn’s expertise and capabilities to assist the NYC region after Hurricane Sandy and other times of crisis. Officials learned the generators deployed by H.O. Penn provided more than 600 mW of power throughout the region during the aftermath of Sandy which was enough capacity to power 24,000 homes and businesses.
In the Q&A session that followed the presentation, officials showed interest in learning H.O. Penn’s perspective regarding what improvements are necessary to better prepare the region for future storms of the magnitude of Hurricane Sandy. Requirements for critical care and emergency centers to know their back-up power needs as well as improved means to connect generators during times of need were both key recommendations made to the group. Several legislators spoke of how they might be helpful with legislation to require certain kinds of facilities to have emergency back generation capability for future disasters. Other attendees referenced a willingness to facilitate discussions regarding preparedness with local officials and groups.
The officials attending the event also spent time meeting H.O. Penn employees and touring the company’s Holtsville facility, which provides construction and power systems equipment sales, rental, leasing and product support services to entities throughout lower New York. Of particular interest at the end of the tour was a display of several different generators that H.O. Penn has in the rental fleet to fulfill any need/demand for emergency power for the region.
H.O. Penn is the authorized Caterpillar distributor for the lower 13 counties of New York state and the state of Connecticut.
