A live demo area was set up to show customers how they can increase jobsite accuracy and eliminate the need for grade stakes, while also making the job site safer. H.O. Penn hosted more than 100 customers at its Holtsville, Long Island, facility on Sept. 21 for an open house event.

During the four-hour event, long-time and prospective customers were able to learn about all of the products and services H.O. Penn has to offer. This included a full product support showcase that provided evidence of how customers of H.O. Penn get “More Than the Machine.”

H.O. Penn also provided a live demonstration area with compact and large machines where attendees were provided with hands-on learning about all the new features and benefits Caterpillar machines have to offer. H.O. Penn's partner, SITECH Metro Northeast, was on site in the demonstration area to educate customers on Trimble technology installed on the machines and how this can vastly improve jobsite productivity.

A 3D design setup was used by a Caterpillar D5K dozer to simulate creating a base layer for a road project, and this allowed operators to perform only a few passes (reverse/forward) to be on grade. The Caterpillar excavators had 2D Cat Grade Control (built in from the factory), and the 336 model excavator had a Trimble 3D systems installed. Demonstrating this machine gave customers an understanding of how quickly they can dig to an exact grade without any grade stakes needed.

Other products and services touted during the event included:

• Parts.Cat.Com (Online Parts Ordering);

• EMServices (Equipment Management Services);

• Cat S•O•S Fluid Analysis Lab;
