A member of the SITECH Metro Northeast team introduces a customer to the GPS technology available in the Cat D5K. John Guerra of JP Guerra Excavating, Monroe, Conn., introduces his son, Wyatt, to the Cat 300.9D. Local contractors and their families made this year’s open house one of H.O. Penn’s most successful events in recent years. As always, an abundance of food and refreshments were available as a show of thanks from H.O. Penn to its current and future customers. Kevin Kretschmer (L), aggregate specialist of H.O. Penn, and Eric Bjornson, Northeast distribution manager on Metso, were on hand to answer questions about Metso crushing and screening products available through H.O. Penn. Cat Certified Rebuilds is an option available through H.O. Penn that significantly extends the life of equipment. (L-R): Jeff Mitchell, president of H.O. Penn; Lisa Katz, H.O. Penn general parts manager; Mike Hattar, H.O. Penn product support manager; and Giro Samale, Caterpillar Aftermarket Solutions Representative. For the “motor heads” in attendance, Matt Pagliarulo was on hand to show off the Jester monster truck. James Warren of Capital Quarry in Naugatuck, Conn., puts a Caterpillar 304E compact excavator through its paces. A Cat 299D2 tracked loader was available in the demo area for customers to experience for themselves the tremendous versatility that a Cat CTL can provide contractors for their equipment fleets. TDC Excavating was very impressed with the pushing power and climbing ability of the Caterpillar tracked loaders. (L-R): Nathan Galli of H.O. Penn with Paul Tetreault and Daniel Bilda, both of TDC Excavating in Taftville, Conn. This Caterpillar excavator equipped with 3D Grade Control attracted a lot of attention. Bob Lodge (in cab) of Lodge Earthworks, Windsor, Conn., and Richard Roulstor of Roulstor Services, Windsor Locks, Conn., were very impressed with the controls of the Cat 12M motorgrader. The Cat D5K equipped with Trimble Grade Control technology removes all the guess work, as well as surveying stakes, when creating a grade.

H.O. Penn, the Caterpillar Dealer for Downstate New York and the State of Connecticut, hosted another well attended open house on June 15 at its Newington, CT, facility.

A live demonstration area was the centerpiece of this year's event where customers had the opportunity to dig, load, and grade on site. H.O. Penn's partner, SITECH Metro Northeast, equipped each piece of excavating equipment with the latest Trimble technology, which uses laser positioning or GPS to provide equipment with increased accuracy and efficiency.

This year's open house also featured a “Product Support Showcase” — an area where customers could receive information about H.O. Penn's CAT support teams and processes, including:

  • Parts.Cat.Com (Online Parts Ordering);
  • EMServices (Equipment Management Services);
  • New PaveForce: Biodegradable Asphalt Solvent;
  • Cat S•O•S Fluid Analysis Lab;
  • Brigade rear view cameras and alarms;
  • Cat Certified Rebuild and Repair options;
  • New Cat Backhoe Fuel System Tune Up;
  • CAT Inspect (machine inspection tools);
  • CAT kits and parts showcase;
  • CAT Work Tools showcase; and
  • CAT Undercarriage and GET care

H.O. Penn awarded many door prizes throughout the event, including a flat screen TV, a Caterpillar tool box, gift cards and much more.
