Hoar Construction announced the groundbreaking for a two-story inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Gainesville, Ga.
Called Northeast Georgia Rehabilitation Institute, the project is a joint venture partnership between Northeast Georgia Health System and Lifepoint Health. Hoar will serve as general contractor for construction of the building, which is expected to be completed by April 2025.
The hospital will house 40 beds and will include shell space for 10 additional beds as needed. The first floor will include a therapy gym, day rooms for patients, a full kitchen and dining room and a mock bedroom and kitchen area to be used for life skills training. The second floor will house space for patients with brain injuries, with therapy rooms and 12 patient beds. The building also will feature a courtyard space with outdoor therapeutic resources.
"We will lean on our years of experience building quality rehabilitation facilities to execute this project to the highest of standards," said John Holmes, superintendent at Hoar. "As it will soon become the leading provider of rehabilitation services in North Georgia, we aim for nothing short of excellence when building Northeast Georgia Rehabilitation Hospital. We are pleased to begin our partnership with Lifepoint with such a rewarding and exciting project and look forward to continuing the relationship after a successful completion next year."
Northeast Georgia Rehabilitation Hospital will be located at 2500 Limestone Parkway, where a J&J Foods once operated. Hoar will begin demolition of the grocery store in March with construction on the hospital beginning in April. The project aims to fill a need for long-term inpatient rehabilitation facilities in North Georgia and will double the capacity of the existing rehabilitation units at NGMC Gainesville.
Earl Swensson Associates Inc. is serving as the architect on the project.
