Hoffman Equipment of Piscataway, N.J., purchased the R.C. Herman Company in Marlboro, N.Y., June 2. The new branch for Hoffman is located at 444 Route 9W in Marlboro, just 8 mi. north of Newburgh.

The purchase presents Hoffman Equipment with an opportunity to bring its crane lines as well as Case construction equipment into the southern New York State market and continue to sell R.C. Herman’s existing lines, most notably LeeBoy paving products.

“The R.C. Herman acquisition is a great move for us,” said Tim Watters, president of Hoffman. “It allows us make available the Case equipment line to southern New York state customers, better support our existing Manitowoc Crane and Gradall customers in the region, and partner with some great new manufactures, especially LeeBoy. We are very, very excited about this acquisition and the growth opportunities it presents to Hoffman Equipment Co.”

In addition to Case and the company’s crane lineup, which includes Grove, Manitowoc and Gradall, R.C. Herman’s current equipment offerings — LeeBoy/Rosco, Dynapac and Interstate trailers — will continue to be sold out of the Marlboro location.

All R.C. Herman staff will be retained — currently 11, with plans to add more sales staff in the coming months.

“The average experience of R.C. Herman’s staff is seven to eight years; they know the area, the region and the people. It just makes good sense to take advantage of their expertise,” said Watters. “And they are great people to boot, dedicated to their customers and to delivering high quality products and service support to match.”

Among the staff retained are three technicians and Service Manager Charles Muser.

Hoffman’s Marlboro facility is approximately 15,000 sq. ft., which includes four service bays, a parts warehouse area, office space and a showroom, covering 7 acres.

Mike Anderson, vice president of sales of Hoffman Equipment, is excited about entering into the southern New York State market.

“It’s a great opportunity for Hoffman to bring some great lines to an area that we’re confident will bring some great growth over the years,” he said. “Right now, it’s a strong crane market — both nationally and internationally — and Case has been a good thing for us, as well.”

Watters echoed Anderson’s enthusiasm.

“We at Hoffman Equipment are very excited to bring our 80 years of experience serving customers to southern New York State,” he added.
