Mountain Valley Pipeline Still Faces Hurdles Before Construction
The Mountain Valley Pipeline nailed a major milestone Oct. 13 by winning the blessing of a key federal agency. But the company can't crank up the bulldozers yet. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's order certifying the $3.7 billion interstate project noted that other federal and state agencies must weigh in before construction can begin on the 42-in.-diameter buried natural gas pipeline....

DOT Issues Nearly $2.5M to States, Local Communities, Non-Profits for Pipeline Safety Efforts
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced Oct. 2, that it is issuing $2,488,497 in grants to state entities, local communities, and non-profit organizations to address pipeline safety challenges related to damage prevention and to promote more involvement in local pipeline safety initiatives and awareness efforts....

TransCanada Proposes Pipeline Across Maryland, West Virginia
Maryland officials are looking at plans for a 3.5-mile underground natural gas pipeline, proposed by TransCanada. The pipeline, which would run beneath the Potomac River, would link gas producers in Pennsylvania and manufacturers in West Virginia, the Baltimore Sun reported....

Mariner East Pipeline Construction to Continue After Settlement
Underground boring will resume on the Mariner East pipeline after a settlement agreement was reached Aug. 8, between state regulators, Sunoco Pipeline and environmental groups. As a part of the proposed settlement, Sunoco will review 47 of its higher-risk boring sites before conducting horizontal directional drilling, based on the sites' location in relation to water sources, natural features and utility lines, in addition to their depth and geological setting, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported....

Keystone XL pipeline developer TransCanada announced July 28 that it is launching an open season in an effort to secure additional bids to support the pipeline's construction. The company invited interested parties to bid until September 28 for contracts to ship oil on the pipeline that would establish a connection between Alberta, Canada's oil sands and U.S.-based refiners and export opportunities, Politico reported....
