There are multiple types of shredders, but all essentially perform the same action: taking a large item and tearing it into smaller pieces. In the forestry field, shredders can be used to remove stumps from a property. For example, John Deere’s SS30 model stump shredder removes stumps from 8 to 28 in. in one pass and is considered a faster process than using conventional grinders. Shredders also can convert wood waste from forestry into biomass fuel, as Georgia-based Evergreen Tree and Turf Care is doing. Shredders also can be used for scrap metal, such as cars, cans and home appliances. Germany-based Arjes’ VZ 950 Titan slow-speed shredder can handle can handle everything from waste wood and logs to domestic and industrial waste and scrap metal/car bodies.
