Ingersoll-Rand Company has introduced the VR-636B and VR-642B telescopic material handlers. These 6,000-lbs. (2,722 kg) class units can pick and carry 6,700 lbs. (3,039 kg) and lift loads to 36 ft. 3 in. (11 m) and 42 ft. (13 m), respectively. The VR-636B offers a forward reach of 20 ft. 6 in. (6.2 m); and can lift loads from 2 ft. (.61 m) below grade; the VR-642B offers a forward reach of 26 ft. 3 in. (8 m).

The low profile, ergonomically designed VR-636B and VR-642B telescopic material handlers offer operators benefits unlike any other machine in the industry, including an overall height of 95 in. (241 cm) in the carry position and the ability to carry a load under a 8 ft. (2.4 m) overhead.

By maintaining its current A-Frame boom mount design, Ingersoll-Rand was able to provide the operator with enhanced overall visibility in the carry position. The operator can see clearly through the A-frame to the right rear and to the right side of the machine.

The rough terrain forklift’s overall height of 95 in. (241 cm) is possible because of a low-mounted engine in the center of the frame. This maximizes the weight low in the machine and in between the axles, helping to make the units among the most stable machines in its class.

Ingersoll-Rand’s VR-636B and VR-642B are powered by the new Cummins Elite series 4B3.9 80-hp (72 kW) engine. An optional Turbocharged 4B3T.9 110-hp (82 kW) also is available. These engines give the units an excellent power-to-weight ratio in the 6,000-lbs. (2,722 kg) class. The telescopic material handlers also utilize a Powershift Transmission, delivering soft shifting and smooth forward/reverse operation.

These 6,000-lbs. (2,722 kg) telescopic handlers are equipped with load sensing pilot operated hydraulic controls, in addition to a column mounted, three-speed, forward and reverse directional control, a full gauge package and three steering modes — four-wheel steer, two-wheel steer and crab steer.

The units offer easy service and maintenance through a sliding engine hood, providing full access to all service points. The engine hood, fuel and hydraulic caps are all lockable to deter vandalism.

The cushioned boom lift cylinders of the rough terrain forklifts offer less maintenance, smoother load placement and longer life. The new wear pad design uses a composite wear pad material that allows for minimal greasing of the boom while offering three to four times the life of conventional wear pad designs. All boom components are well protected inside the boom and can be replaced without disassembling the boom.

The units are compatible with many attachments including: various carriages 48, 60 and 72 in. (122, 152 and 183 cm) wide, a side tilting carriage, a 1-cu. yd. (.76 cu m) bucket, a 12-ft. (3.7 m) truss boom and a hydraulic fork positioner and more.
