At the end of 2009, Insinger Excavating had one 15-year-old jaw crusher and one screening plant. As 2010 draws to close, its stock has increased to include four of the latest track crushers, three tracked screening plants and two tracked stockpiling conveyors.
The family owned and operated company expanded rapidly in 2010 to meet the huge increase in demand for crushed aggregate in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania. The construction of gas drilling pads to extract the Marcellus shale deposits requires thousands of tons of crushed stone with demand outstripping local supply many times over.
When the gas drilling companies told Chris Insinger “we will buy all the aggregate you can make” it was a challenge Insinger responded to with gusto.
Following discussions with Keith Kimmerle of Emerald Equipment Systems, Insinger rented two Pegson XR400 jaw tracked crushers to make the 8 in. minus product required during the initial phases of drill pad construction. As the year progressed, a secondary Pegson 428 impact crusher and a Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X were added to make and size smaller products.
The concept of track mobility was one of key features that influenced Insinger’s equipment decisions: the ability to track the crushing and screening equipment to and away from the face when he needed to blast was a significant cost saving versus running haul trucks to a static crushing plant, he said.
When Kimmerle told Insinger about the new line of Telestack tracked stockpiling conveyors Emerald Equipment Systems was launching, Insinger knew they were the final piece in the puzzle.
The Telestack TC421 conveyors allow Insinger to move the stackers safely around the quarry without the need to use a loader or excavator, as is the case with traditional wheel stackers.
With the Dushore, Pa., quarry up and running Insinger and his father John began to look for further opportunities and have recently opened a second quarry in Prattville, Pa. The newly launched Powerscreen (Pegson) XR400S jaw and Chieftain 1800 were added to the fleet to get the quarry up and running before winter.
Insinger’s aggressive expansion during 2010 was aided by the on site service and parts backup provided by Emerald Equipment Systems, the local Powerscreen, Pegson and Telestack dealer for Pennsylvania.
“Going from running one crusher and one screening plant to running and maintaining eight pieces would not have been possible without a partner who stood behind their equipment,” said Chris Insinger.
