ISRI delegates visiting Fuchs booth A12 during the ISRI 2016 Convention and Exposition at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. from April 4-6 were among the first to see the future operator control center for Fuchs material handlers. The sleek new cab design incorporates more glass to advance visibility, new steering control for improved maneuverability and revised interior for more space and greater operator comfort. The new cab design will begin to make its appearance on Fuchs material handlers starting in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Similar to the machines, the new cab is specially designed for the harsh scrap, recycling, logging, waste and port applications faced by Fuchs purpose-built handlers. A significant departure from all previous cab designs, the new Fuchs cabin boasts joystick steering control that delivers improved steering responsiveness for enhanced maneuverability. This removes the steering wheel and console from in front of the operator to vastly improve visibility in front of the machine and increase leg room for greater operator comfort. Should a customer want the steering wheel, it can be added as an option.

The Fuchs cab of tomorrow incorporates significantly more glass surface area into the front, top and sides of the structure for improved viewing of the work area. A sliding glass door affords easy entry to the cab for operators. Built with triple-layer glass and a protective film, the front window features a negative angle slope to improve visibility and give the cab a more spacious feel. The roof's substantially larger glass viewing area provides improved visibility of the load through the top of the cab.

The dual joystick machine controls inside the cab are designed specifically for material handling functions to advance operator efficiency. Fingertip buttons, conveniently grouped on the right- and left-hand joysticks, control cab elevation, grapple slewing, slewing brake, magnet and turn signal, among other functions. Proportional control of the main attachment function – open, close and turning – delivers precise handling of the load to increase productivity. The main 7-in (178-mm) multi-function touchscreen display provides simple, intuitive handler operation, while a second color display shows video captured by the rear- and side-view night vision cameras.

Extra creature comforts designed into the new Fuchs cab further advance operator comfort and productivity over extended shifts. Standard heating and air-conditioning help keep the operator comfortable inside of the cab regardless of ambient conditions. The heated and air-cushioned operator comfort seat features integrated headrest, seat belt, lumbar support, multi-purpose seat adjustment options and armrests. The advanced design of the new cab makes this one of the quietest Fuchs cabs ever produced. Cab configuration also includes multiple cup holders and a cooled storage compartment for lunch, beverages and medicine.
