The JCB 3CX Compact delivers performance and capability, but in a 35 percent smaller package, making it ideal for utility projects in urban locations, according to the manufacturer.

The 3CX Compact is compatible with skid steer loader attachments and hand-held hydraulic tools — such as a disc cutter, hammer and impact wrench — for maximum versatility.

JCB chief innovation and growth officer Tim Burnhope said, "With the 3CX Compact, JCB has condensed more than 60 years of backhoe loader expertise and market leadership into a machine that delivers the versatility, productivity and ease of use of the market-leading 3CX, with even more maneuverable dimensions.

"The small footprint and incredible all-round visibility is perfect for working on congested job sites, it's easy and intuitive to use, has great mobility and maneuverability and, with servo controls, will suit operators of backhoes and excavators.

"With the 3CX Compact we are delivering a real master of all trades. The addition of a skid steer coupler makes the 3CX Compact even more versatile, allowing operators to get a higher return on their machinery investment and complete more projects, more efficiently."

At the front end, the loader comes with a range of shovels that can be supplied with optional hard- wearing toe plates for road stripping applications. A load over height of 9 ft. 9 in. (2.98 m) and forward reach at full height of 3 ft. 8 in. (1.11 m) allows easy loading of trucks. The machine also can be ordered with a hydraulic quick hitch, for faster attachment change.

The 3CX Compact is powered by a low emission Tier IV Final JCB Diesel by Kohler engine, delivering 74 hp (55 kW). This highly efficient engine meets U.S. emissions standards without the need for a costly diesel particulate filter (DPF).

The engine drives through a three-speed hydrostatic transmission to all four wheels, for maximum traction in difficult site conditions. The transmission also features a creep mode, allowing the operator to run at high rpm, to power high-flow attachments such as road planers, with maximum travel speeds of just 2.2 mph (3.5 kmh).

Additional standard features include heavy-duty JCB axles with an optional limited slip differential, an intelligent braking system that disengages the transmission for increased efficiency and reduced component wear, and JCB's smooth ride loader suspension system (SRS) for improved operator comfort and reduced spill from the front shovel. The 3CX Compact also is equipped with JCB's LiveLink telematic tracking and monitoring system, which allows fleet managers to remotely monitor a machine's performance and operating health.
