JCB has introduced its largest and strongest telescopic handler to date — the 512-56. According to John Patterson, deputy chairman of JCB, the 512-56 is the largest machine in the company’s range of telescopic handlers and meets a growing trend towards larger machines.

“The 512-56 caps off our line of five high-boom, lift-and-place Loadalls with capacities ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 pounds,” Patterson said. “With this new high-capacity, high-lifting machine, we’re entering an important, growing sector of the market.”

The 512-56 telescopic handlers can elevate a maximum load of 12,000 lbs. (5,443 kg) with a maximum lift height of 56 ft. (17 m). The machine is equipped with axle-mounted stabilizers as standard for chassis leveling when the stabilizer legs are down, enabling it to lift massive loads without sacrificing safety. Its combination of power and lifting height make it ideal for lifting and placing heavy items at construction and industrial sites, according to the manufacturer.

Versatile

High-Boom Design

The 512-56’s boom is positioned high for optimum operator visibility when working or traveling. A hydraulic cylinder mounted underneath the outer boom extends the boom’s intermediate section, with chains for second and third stages. This “top-hat” boom design uses a Waxoyl lubricant exclusive to JCB. Because the Waxoyl lubricant is dry to the touch, it does not attract sand or dirt that could potentially increase boom pad wear. The boom’s quick-hitch enables operators to use a wide variety of attachments on the 512-56, further enhancing its versatility and productivity.

Side-Mounted JCB Tier III Dieselmax Engine

With a side-mounted, 114 hp (85 kW) version of JCB’s EPA and CARB-compliant Tier III Dieselmax Engine, the 512-56 has power to spare. The engine’s high level of torque delivers enhanced tractive effort in soft ground conditions. A standard four-speed JCB powershift transmission provides effortless gear changes while the machine is on the move. Mounted at a 90-degree angle to the machine’s frame, the engine is easily accessible for servicing and maintenance. Also featured on JCB’s low-boom telescopic handlers, this side-mounted engine creates a high level of parts commonality that allows dealers and operators of multiple-machine fleets to maintain fewer parts in inventory.

Heavy-Duty JCB Axles

The 512-56 features JCB axles with torque-proportioning differentials as standard equipment. Heavy-axle shafts and outboard planetary hubs offer long service life and reduce repair and maintenance costs over the life of the machine. Service brakes are self-adjusting oil-immersed discs that require no maintenance.

Comfort and Safety

Operators can comfortably and safely enter and exit the 512-56’s lower-mounted, spacious cab. Inside the ergonomically-designed cab, a large right-hand cluster provides at-a-glance reading of the machine’s instrument display. The cab’s easy-to-operate plus-pattern servo hydraulic control lever features proportional and flow-share capability for precise control with fast cycle times.

Outside the cab, operators can choose from several tire options — air-filled, eco ballast, puncture sealant and foam-filled. In this way, operators can ensure that the 512-56’s tires will meet the demands of the terrain present at their individual job sites.
