Jeff Winke's 'Junk Drawer'

Everyone has that catchall drawer that’s a mix of functional stuff, nonsensical items, and the you-never-know-when-you’ll-need-its. That’s an apt description of this blog.

Walk into anyone's home and ask to see their junk drawer. Everyone has that catchall drawer that's a mix of functional stuff, nonsensical items, and the you-never-know-when-you'll-need-its. That's an apt description of my blog.

I plan to cover workforce observations, interesting/odd construction stories, contractors doing cool stuff, and yes, problem-solving tips.

Why are you writing this, you might ask? I've been involved in the construction market for more years than you younger workers have been alive. I'm a writer, so observing, documenting, talking with, and visiting construction contractors is what I do. Also, touring manufacturers' factories, calling on equipment dealers, and attending trade shows where I walk the floor and attend press conferences and training sessions.

I know a lot, but I also know that the construction industry is dynamic, evolving, and never the same. I've also learned that successful contractors are darn smart, focused, hard working, and when I can get them to relax for even a moment they all seem to have a bit of James Dean rebel in them. I like construction contractors. They've been my teachers, guides, and mentors in my journey to learn the construction industry. Listening to contractors is how I know alot.

Welcome to my blog.
