Jan and Gerald Beckwith, both of JM Wood, enjoy the birthday festivities. (L-R): JM Wood’s Russ Wood and Curt Brown talk with Mark Guin of Scott Bridge Company, Opelika, Ala., about the machines on the block. Ron Jacobson (L), Hall Equipment, St. Louis, Mo., and Pudge Guettler of Guettler & Sons, Fort Pierce, Fla., trade notes on equipment of interest. The JM Wood staff works long hours to make sure the machines are all in the best possible condition before they roll across the ramp. Tim Thomas of Tractor & Equipment Co., Birmingham, Ala., considers this Komatsu WA270 wheel loader. Larry Sherer (L) and Steve Jones, both of Southside Excavating, Jasper, Ala., inspect this John Deere 650K XLT dozer. (L-R) are Bill Woods, Woods Equipment, Nashville, Tenn.; George Massey, JM Wood Auction Company; and Tim Irvin, also of JM Wood Auction Company. The late-model Cat 12M motorgraders in the sale line-up sold in the $140,000 to $160,000 range.

JM Wood Auction Company held a successful three-day auction Sept. 19 to 21, featuring construction equipment, trucks, agricultural and forestry machines at its headquarters facility in Montgomery, Ala. The sale boasted more than $29 million in total sales of which more than $6 million was sold online.

Online bidders participated in the auction from 43 U.S. states, as well as Australia, Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, United Kingdom and Thailand.

Highlights included a nice group of late-model Caterpillar county owned machines and 2017 model Mack trucks.

"The auction was strong all three days," said Bryant Wood. "However, the highlight of the auction was definitely Mrs. Jan Beckwith's 75th surprise birthday party we had on preview day. We had customers from St. Louis to Virginia come just to see her, and there were birthday cards and flowers sent in from around the country. She is the glue of the company and does so much for everyone here. Jan has been here since the late 70s, and she is like a second mother to us all."
