 Komatsu executives, local and state officials break ground for Komatsu Equipment Company’s new facility.

Komatsu Equipment Company, headquartered in Salt Lake City, with locations in Nevada, Utah and Wyoming, broke ground on Oct. 17 on its new facility in Elko, Nev. The $47 million state-of-the-art, 189,000 sq. ft. branch will be built on approximately 30 acres at 4450 P&H Drive and will be staffed with nearly 150 employees.

The new building includes:

  • A six-bay, full service construction equipment and mechanical rebuild shop;
  • a heavy welding and fabricating shop, large enough for rebuild and manufacturing of large shovel and truck structures and manufacturing of truck bodies;
  • a heavy machine shop with large, horizontal milling and boring machine, plus vertical lathe capability; and
  • a construction equipment and rental-machine yard with easy, Interstate 80 access.

Rod Schrader, chairman/CEO of Komatsu America Corp., John Pfisterer, president of Komatsu Equipment Company, state and local dignitaries and other executives were on hand for the ceremony.

Serving Nevada and supporting the entire western United States, the Elko facility will be Komatsu's largest combined service center in North America, when it is complete in early 2020.
