A new ZX190W-6 has rolled onto the fleet of the Keweenaw County Road Commission (KCRC) in Mohawk, Mich.

KCRC built the county road system and most of the state highways throughout the county from the 1910s to the 1960s. It primarily provides winter and summer maintenance for the 481 lane miles of state and county roads.

The ZX190W-6 has tackled a variety of tasks since its delivery in spring 2018.

"The Hitachi 190 is our ‘go-to' machine whether we're ditching, replacing culverts, backfilling, undercutting and for any kind of digging," said Chris Cronenworth, KCRC maintenance foreman. "We chose the wheeled excavator over a tracked machine because of its versatility and ease of transportation to and from jobs."

David Kaura, KCRC operator for the ZX190W-6, said he enjoys running the machine.

"The controls are effortless, and the cab is nice," Kaura said. "I like the temperature control and the heated seat."

KCRC partnered with local Hitachi dealer McCoy Construction & Forestry to order the ZX190W-6.

"We worked closely with McCoy when it came to spec'ing the machine," said Gregg Patrick, KCRC engineer/manager. "They listened to what we needed and made sure we got the best machine for our work."
