Knoxville Interstate Project Among Top Transportation Jobs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s SmartFIX40 project in Knoxville is being recognized as one of the top transportation undertakings in the country.

The American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials selected the work for an “America’s Transportation Award” for “On Time Completion, Medium Project” in the Southeast Region.

The annual transportation awards identify achievement in the development and construction of transportation projects.

According to a news release from TDOT, Interstate 40 in Knoxville was closed in May 2008 and reopened 18 days ahead of schedule in June 2009.
