Kobelco America Inc. improves its line of hydraulic lattice boom crawler cranes with the introduction of the new 85-ton (77 t) CK850 crane. It features strong lifting capacities, wet-type disc brakes, and a long reach.
Kobelco’s CK850 crane has a 213-hp (158 kW) Mitsubishi 6D16-TLED diesel engine. This six-cylinder engine, with a 460 cu. in. (7,538 cu cm) displacement, is water-cooled, fuel-injected, intercooled and turbocharged to deliver lifting and traveling power. The CK850 also features a computer-controlled engine speed sensing (ESS) system that reduces engine speed changes during simultaneous operations, for smoother, more efficient performance in any situation, regardless of the size of the load.
New drums and winches provide large rope capacity, strong lifting capacities and fast line speeds. Working rope capacity for the front drum is 869 ft. (264 m) and for the rear drum is 673 ft. (205 m). Front and rear drums are 21.5 in. (54.6 cm) wide. Stored rope capacity for both drums is 1,099 ft. (335 m). Rated line pull for both drums is 17,000 lbs. (7,711 kg) and can carry to the seventh layer of rope. The raising and lowering line speed for the front and rear drums is 390 fpm, based on a single line on the first drum layer.
The CK850 crane has forced-circulation, oil-cooled, wet-type multi-disc brakes installed in each winch drum. The forced-circulation of oil through the brake’s discs maintains the brakes’ efficiency and keeps temperatures down during long or continuous operations. By placing the brakes within the winch drums, Kobelco has made them wider, increasing capacity and reducing the chance of uneven winding. This helps to extend the service life of the wire rope. Also, wet disc brakes have a long trouble-free service life, so there will be less downtime, lower maintenance costs and higher productivity on the job.
The CK850’s maximum lifting capacity, obtained with a 40-ft. (12 m) base boom and an 11-ft. (3.3 m) working radius, is 170,000 lbs. (77,110 kg). The maximum boom length is 200 ft. (60 m).
Maximum boom plus jib length is 180 ft. plus 60 ft. (54.8 plus 18.2 m). At 180 ft. (54.8 m) of main boom and 30 ft. (9 m) of jib, the lifting capacity is 19,770 lbs. (8,967 kg). The CK850 has a swing radius of just 14 ft. (4.2 m), so it can be positioned for maximum effectiveness almost anywhere on the job site.
